Welcome to the InfoMagic JAVA(tm) CD-ROM

This disc contains the JAVA(tm) Development Kit for Windows(tm) 95/NT, SPARC Solaris, and Linux. The HOTJAVA(tm) browser is also suppled for both Windows(tm) 95/NT and SPARC Solaris. The material on this CD is provided in several formats for each of these platforms. By utilizing the full capabilities of the ISO-9660 CD-ROM format, and Rock Ridge Extensions, we have attempted to make the files usable directly from the CD as well as providing the original distribution files for installation to your hard disk.

A translation file is provided in every directory (TRANS.TBL) that has the original filename and the ISO-9660 alias for systems that do not support Rock Ridge Extensions.

The documentation is supplied in a number of forms including the original distribution files in both "tar" and "zip" formats as well as uncompressed expanded HTML files. There are two directories containing the HTML files, one usable on UNIX(tm) systems that support the Rock Ridge Extensions and the other usable under Windows(tm). Refer to the directory layout below for the paths to these and other directories.

The material on this CD-ROM is COPYRIGHT SUN Microsystems (and others), please refer to the included copyright file for the terms and conditions covering its use and distribution.

We were granted explicit permission by Randy Chapman to include the port of the Development Kit for Linux on this CD. This may change with the 1.0.2 port. SUN Microsystem's current position is that they own any and all external ports of the JDK. Further, unlike the ports that SUN has made available for Windows and the MAC, as well as Solaris, these "external ports" may not be distributed except via anonymous FTP over the Internet.

The file ls_lr is a complete listing of all files on the CD. It was produced using a perl script supplied by Marty Leiner and the script is included in the "extras" directory on the CD.

Linux users - Please refer to the file README.infomagic in the linux directory for additional notes.

The Windows compliant version of the HTML documentation was prepared using "Grab-a-Site" from Blue Squirrel Software whose assistance is gratefully acknowledged, check out their other products at http://www.bluesquirrel.com
